Much like Liam Brazer’s artwork, James’ artwork takes simple shapes and turns them into awesome portraits of some of our favorite heroes! Also, like Liam’s, his artwork is awesome! Polygon Heroes by James Reid
An excerpt from William Basiniski’s Disintegration Loops project.
The gist of the project: Basiniski, a composer, had created an archive of tape loops. 20 years later, when rediscovering those loops, it was clear that time and chemistry had taken their toll on them. Tape is a combination of various chemicals and they will deteriorate over time. Disintegration Loops is an ethereal sonic exploration of this process. If you don’t know the work of artist Mark Bradford, I highly suggest you check him out. He doesn’t work primarily with audio or video, but he does employ some techniques and principles that we’ve been talking about in class. He uses the urban landscape as his picking ground and creates large scale collages. His materials include found street signs, posters and billboards, mostly from his locale in LA. Through processes of deconstruction he then reconstructs these materials to much as we are doing with time based materials. Although the work itself isn’t “time-based” it does portray time.
